![]() Saturday April 13, 2013 Hello, my name is Sharon Bates, owner of Tangles Salon and Spa. I am the organizer of the East Gwillimbury Women’s Shows. I have always done something to give back to the community. When I opened my salon I hosted a ‘Shave Your Head Day and Pink Highlights’ fundraiser for cancer but when those fundraisers were busting at the seams and were spilling into the parking lot, I decided that I could do something much bigger. I organized the first East Gwillimbury Women’s Show in April 2009. I know that our town does not have a home show and because of my connections with the East Gwillimbury Chamber of Commerce and my community involvement I wanted to host a show that focused on women. The show provides a win/win situation for everyone. The women attending enjoy an afternoon of samples and connecting with local businesses. The vendors get a face to face interaction with over 300 guests. Also, the sponsors and vendors get added exposure with our web site, facebook page, advertisements, and the 300 gift bags that are handed out. Every show has had the full upstairs gymnasium of the hall, packed with vendors (35+). Each show also has had at least 300 guests attend and a very full silent auction. We have always kept the vendor cost low and guest entrance fees at only $5.00. Each East Gwillimbury Women’s Show has been very successful! The first show (2009) raised over $6,000 To date the East Gwillimbury Women’s Shows has raised over $24,500 for the Southlake Hospital Regional Cancer Program. With this money the show has purchased equipment for a radiation suite within the cancer center. I have personally made a commitment to Southlake to raise $50,000 with the East Gwillimbury Women’s Show for the cancer center. I truly believe that everyone can do something to give back to the community and this is something that I do well and I am committed to work towards my goals. I believe that I will see a cure to cancer in my lifetime and I enjoy watching the many improvements a state of the art hospital like Southlake can do for its patients and community. I enjoy reading the Being Well magazine articles about new and improved treatments, shorter waiting times and of course, patient success stories. This year I would like to make the show bigger and better with producing a show directory for greater exposure for the vendors and sponsors with added information and entertainment for our guests. I would like to open up a section in the basement for more vendors (possibly non-profit community groups, and home based businesses) who would also like to have a chance to participate in the show. I would like to see larger businesses participate in our new sponsorship opportunities such as Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, gift bag sponsors, and media sponsors. I would also like to see some guest appearances. In past years we have always had at least 300 guest with the new sponsorship opportunity’s I hope to grow this number to 500 this year. We are looking for businesses like yours to participate. So how can you be involved? Platinum Sponsorship: The Platinum sponsorship is reserved for only 1 sponsor.
